Branching Out: Three Ways To Futomomo

RSVP Here!

This intermediate–advanced class is a deep dive into futomomos. Rather than teaching one "correct" futomomo, we will build three different ones, compare what each is actually good at, and develop the judgment to choose the right structure for the body, the position, and the goal in front of you.

We will begin on the ground, building all three futomomos and while also troubleshooting: the numb foot, the wraps that shear, the shin that hates you, the futomomo that looks beautiful and falls apart the second it takes weight. We will dig into what causes each of these and how to fix them.

The class ends with a culmination tie that puts two different futomomos on the same body at once, so you can feel directly how structure choice shapes position, sensation, and sustainability.

This class emphasizes structural thinking, adaptability, and iteration. It is designed for intermediate to experienced rope practitioners who want to deepen their technical fluency, expand their creative range, and build confidence loading and transitioning these structures.

This is a chest harness-agnostic class — attendees are welcome to work with any harness they are familiar with.

Prerequisites:

All participants:

  • Basic understanding of consent, negotiation, and the general risks involved in rope bondage

  • Familiarity with at least one back-loading harness that can be inverted.

  • Students new to partial or full suspension should inform the instructor so additional supervision can be provided

Tops:

  • Solid single column

  • Comfortable managing tension, wraps, and basic frictions

  • For partial suspension: experience with at least one bamboo upline

  • For full suspension: confident understanding of uplines

Bottoms:

  • Awareness of how their body responds in rope

  • Comfortable having their body bound for a while!

  • Familiarity with the harness being used

Jesse is a queer, polyamorous, neurospicy human and a switchy rope nerd based in Chicago. They’ve been tying since October 2021 and started bottoming regularly about two years ago. Their current rope hyperfocus is the stemless gote, which they’ve been studying and experimenting with across different bodies, contexts, and styles.

As a rigger they enjoy rope that’s sadistic, connective, goofy, and suffery — sometimes all at once. They’re especially interested in how people bridge technical structures, emotional intensity, embodiment, and creativity.

Outside of rope, Jesse spends their time building and bridging communities, caring for their geriatric animals, rock climbing, and more recently, lifting heavy things for fun.

CuriousJenna (she/her) is a queer, polyamorous, bottom-leaning rope switch. She has been bottoming since 2016 and tying since 2019. On both sides of the slash, she loves rope on the floor, in the air, nice, mean, and in-between. As an instructor, she loves exploring how and why things work. She strives to balance perfectionism with pragmatism, encouraging students to develop a deep understanding that supports creative decision-making, risk mitigation, and the ability to iterate and troubleshoot their own ties.
