A minimalist masterclass in mid-air murder.
This 3-hour class pulls one electrifying stand-alone sequence from Anoxia's "Suffering in Space" intensive — a program built around transition sequences engineered for maximum intensity and suffering in dynamic suspension.
What to expect:
We'll split the class into two focused parts. First, we dig into the harness architecture behind the sequence, with deep dives into two signature elements: the simple front loading harness and an in-air figure-8 agura. Then we move into demonstration and hands-on practice time, working the full sequence together.
This is advanced-level work — come ready for real physical intensity and technically demanding elements. The sequence features minimalistic harnesses, single point hangs, optional droplifts, a roll, torsion, forward folds, and a challenging waist rope. Not for the faint of heart, but deeply rewarding for a tying team with the right mindset.
Class Prerequisites:
This class is designed for partners who already know each other well in rope and bring serious experience with transitional suspension.
Riggers should already have:
A suspendable upper body tie (box tie will be demoed, but any suspendable upper body tie works)
Confidence tying structures in the air under stress conditions
Solid top and bottom-up line lock-off skills, on carabiners or single point
The ability to move in and out of suspension positions smoothly and with control
Some basic understanding of minimalism and what qualifies as ‘suspendable’
Optional: comfort executing single point full-body lifts with your partner
Bottoms should bring:
Comfort sustaining suspensions in a learning environment
The ability to clearly communicate critical safety information under stress
Strong body awareness — range of motion in joints, nerve sensitivity, and positional needs
A genuine desire to bottom for intense suspension torture, including waist hangs, deep torsion, minimalistic loading structures, and potentially heavy wrist and ankle pressure
Students should bring:
Ropes for your suspendable upper and lower body ties (likely 3-8 ropes)
Ropes for your uplines (at least 3)
Rigging materials for single-point suspension (this can be a ring, rigging plate, carabiners, etc)
Safety shears or another appropriate cutting tool
Anything else you might want for class (water, blanket, snacks, note taking tools)
Instructor Bios:
Anoxia (they/them) is a Chicago-based rope educator and performer with over a decade of dedicated practice in primarily Japanese-style rope bondage. They've trained extensively with instructors across North America, Europe, and Japan, drawing on a range of traditions to shape their own teaching approach. As an educator, Anoxia teaches from both sides, covering suspension concepts and anatomy alongside the language of emotional skills and collaborative scene-making. In play, their rope tends toward intense, creative, and emotionally charged scenes, with strong currents of sadomasochism. Anoxia now works in rope full-time, touring to teach workshops, offering private instruction, and working at Shibari Study. They're also active in event organizing, helping run conferences and tours in Chicago and at venues across the US and Canada.
NoName (they/them) is a transgender sadomasochist switch who has been engaging in kink since 2009, and started their rope journey in 2012. They mainly help teach as a bottom. NoName enjoys the creativity and endless possibilities that rope provides in play, along with the wide range of headspaces ties can create through rope placement, body positioning, and manipulation.
